If i tried to place one on the first floor it would place it on the ground.
Sims 4 why cant i build roof on 2nd floor.
I am playing the sims 4 on a macbook air.
Cannot make changes outside of owned area but the thing is the prebuilt penthouse there was built on that boundary on the second floor.
I ve experienced this a lot trying to create an open second floor overlooking the first floor connected by a stairs.
Many builders falter when it comes to building a roof on their sim houses but it needn t be a chore.
Sims 4 building and construction can t add roof on third floor.

Sims 4 bug can t build on the second floor boundary of the penthouse.
At first it started with roofs not placing right.
It seems that the new build mode reads one block of space as a room if it has all four walls and a floor.
It edits the first floor not the second.
Trying to make a second floor and it s not working.
Just click on the floor and drag it to extend over the entire room.
Along with this i can t edit or place tile unless it was randomly added.
Hit page up on your keyboard to move up to the second floor view then build the walls floors etc from there.
Get the flat floor room tool and drag it over the open ceiling.
But not where you just have an open gap in your roof and haven t defined the area above.
Does nobody understand sims 4 s build system.
Now i cant even build a second floor because the game wont let me.
I had to divide my second floor up into little rooms then use the select tool then delete the non existent ceiling then it let me build an actual ceiling.
I think the game isn t recognizing it as a member of the grid honestly based on how it s acting.
So i m not sure why.
With the base game we are somewhat limited in the available roof pieces but as the game progresses more choice may be added.

You may expand your house by increasing the size of rooms building new ones or creating another floor.
The sims 4 offers really wide opportunities for enlarging existing rooms without demolishing them.
The house you build or purchase at the beginning may be just right for you for a long time but sooner or later you will need to expand it.
And then when you go to the second floor you just can t.
I ll try to place a floor tile and it ll basically just ignore it s existence.
